Company History

This is my History, but I retired and just doing DAR work for the FAA

     Special Products Aviation inc.  is located in Conway, Arkansas.  Conway is 25 miles north of Little Rock on interstate I-40 West.  The airport identifier is M(zero)3, in fact, we are geographically in the center of the United States.

     We have been in business for 21 years.  Our facility consist of over 10,000 square feet.  Our facility is divided into work areas which is heated and air conditioned.  We are a family owned and operated business.    My wife, Reva Blalock (secretary),  Kenny Blalock (president) A & P, IA, and DAR (maintance and manufacturing), Merrel Blalock, my son who is an A & P Mechanics,  , Josh Beatty (soon to be A & P), Brian Beatty (Mechanic helper and painter), Joe Melton --A & P mechanic, this completes the staff.  My FAA Principal Inspector is Mr. Gerald Acord of the Little Rock GADO.

     I am an A.P., I.A. and D.A.R., as well as an appointed F.A.A. Safety Counselor for the Little Rock G.A.D.O.  I am a former air show pilot/builder and an original member of the Great American Flying Circus,  I flew air shows professionally for 14 years and designed and built the Pitts Falcon, (the worlds smallest highest horse powered biplane), which I flew for 6 years.  I am a recipient of the Wright Flyers Award, which was  presented to me in 1986.  I was one of the original inventors of the F.A.A. approved Air-Tech Fabric Covering System and still participate as a Technical Assistant/Advisor for Air-Tech Coatings inc.  We have helped build many award winning airplanes, with our customers, which have won awards at major fly-in events.

     My hobbies is flying, hunting, fishing and ham radio, (KB5UIJ).  I enjoy back country flying  in my custom built 210 HP modified 7 AC Champ airplane, (see picture on my web page).  I enjoy talking airplane modifications with others and sharing knowledge on new ideas and designs.

     Last year we installed over 1000 yards of fabric on different airplanes, using the Air-Tech Fabric Covering Process.  Our prime target airplanes is the wood, steel and fabric covered aircraft.  We are equipped to do custom sandblasting, aluminum or steel welding repairs, modifications or fabrication, sheet metal repairs or fabrication, wood working repairs or modifications, fabric covering, painting, hot metalizing, and light machining.   We at Special Products Aviation can do the portion of your project that requires special tools and skills, we will return your components to you ready to install, with all necessary F.A.A. documentation as necessary.
